If you’re thinking about having a destination wedding, Bali is a truly incredible location option. Think stunning sunset vistas, white sandy private beaches, affordable services and short flights from Australia. Bali is a little island paradise filled with unique spots to celebrate your love. From private clifftop villas nestled on the Bukit Peninsula to lush ricefield views in Canggu or even tropical style beachfront venues where you can marry barefoot in the sand.
At Asia Holiday Retreats we constantly get queries from couples wanting to secure wedding spots, so we thought we’d share our knowledge with these top tips to planning your Bali wedding. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries. We’ve been based on the island for many years and can help you with all of the ins and out of getting hitched in paradise.
Make Sure You Save The Date
Bali offers warmth all year but the dry season runs from May to October. This is the ideal season for weddings but don’t rule out the rest of the year just yet! Booking shoulder dates in the offseason has real benefits, while you’re not guaranteed clear skies, tourist numbers are lower meaning traffic, flight and vendor costs also drop. Plus, if you’re worried about a little rain just hire a rainstopper. They’re famously and successfully used by top venues in Bali and there’s no reason they can’t clear the clouds from the sky on your big day.
DIY or Professional Planning?
It’s a question that most couples ask us and we can tell you first hand that you’ll save yourself a lot of frustration and hassle if you hand your event planning over to the experts. The language barrier and the time difference make it difficult to plan your own wedding from home. Asia Holiday Retreats work with specialist planners who can take care of everything for you from legalities, food, flowers, makeup artists and the hundreds of other tasks that are involved in getting married. Don’t hesitate to ask us for help at any time! It’s amazing to be able to sit back, relax and just enjoy the blissful time together while someone else takes care of the work.
Choose Tried And Tested Vendors
Vendors and what we call ‘people services’ are an important part of the wedding so you need to make sure you choose the right ones. You can search the internet for recommendations (and hope for the best) but it’s best to trust the experts. Bali has some talented makeup artists, photographers, florists, celebrants, waiters and entertainment providers but it’s important to book them early to avoid disappointment.
Sort The legal Ins and Outs Early
Yes, it’s possible to get officially married in Bali though some couples do the paperwork back home and just have a symbolic celebration on the island. If you decide to go the first route then make sure you’re aware of the requirements. In all parts of Indonesia, a religious ceremony must be held and you’ll need to speak with your own consulate at least 12 weeks before you come to make sure you get the right paperwork.
Location, Location, Location
The venue choice is possibly the most important decision you’ll make during the wedding planning process. From a cost perspective, villas are the best option. You won’t attract the high charges of hotels and specialist venues and you’ll have guaranteed privacy with your loved ones before, during and after the big day.
There are some simply gorgeous properties all over the island and it’s easier than you think to customise them to your needs with marquees, decorations and styling by a number of wedding experts on the island. As the Bali villa experts, we thought we’d show you some options in different areas to whet your appetite. Read on below to see villas in three different areas of stunning Bali.
