LIVING AREAS

The main house has accordion French doors that run the entire length of the main house and can be closed if air conditioning is needed, although it is rare, as the house remains cool throughout the hottest part of the season with a ceiling fan in the middle of the room.  The quarried stone tile floors allow for wet bathers to come in from the pool without worry.  The combination living room and dining room provide a large floor space for entertaining.  The stone art work on the back wall of the living room is intricately carved from 4 separate pieces of Balinese limestone and pieced together to form a 16 foot long piece of artwork.  Just try to find the seams!  A separate powder room is behind the living room.  The furniture in the living room is a combination of furniture custom designed solely for this villa plus antique furniture.  A stereo system with an I-Pod docking connection and CD player is located in the living room.

A full-sized kitchen is equipped with large refrigerator, 5 burner gas stove and oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, blender, bottled water dispenser and has pool-safe plastic drinking glasses as well as local Balinese tableware.  The dining room table is a 5” thick tree trunk brought from Java; sitting on two giant pedestals it can be set for an 8-11 person meal.Original Balinese, Javanese and Thai artwork adorn the living and dining room walls.

OUTDOOR AREAS

The Villa Saffron has its own 1.6-meter deep pool and a tiled seating area with 3 Jacuzzi jets at one end and a waterfall at the other end. Underwater lights for nighttime swims also allow for fabulous nighttime viewing of the stars. The raised wooden deck along one side of the pool gets sunshine throughout the day and includes 3 adjustable-back chaise lounges with cushiony covers and drink holders for sun tanning or just reading a book or Kindle! The deck also includes a table and two chairs under a large sun umbrella to provide shade when the sun gets too hot or for eating a meal. Behind the deck is a colorful garden including a wide variety of plants and flowers along with a water feature. There is an outdoor shower next to the “Buddha garden” for cleaning off from a day at the beach or before a refreshing swim.

Adjacent to the deck is a balé, (“bah lay”) a raised platform under a thick thatched roof supported by 4 coconut tree wood columns. With a fan and lights hidden under the roof to allow for sipping a cool drink or sitting out on a hot night and keeping cool, the balé can seat 8 persons on one large one foot thick cushion that covers the entire area under the thatched roof in the event of rain. The balé is reached by a stone and wood walkway bridge, which crosses the waterfall from the main house. Original Balinese tile artwork and antiques adorn the wall and shelves next to the bale. Opposite the walkway are 3 Garuda statues, which spout water into the pond under the walkway.

Complete privacy is assured for sun tanning by a privacy wall surrounding the villa, which allows for shedding of unnecessary clothing if one so chooses. Sunscreen is recommended!

MASTER BEDROOM

Adjacent to the main house and separated by a small garden is the master bedroom and bath. One entrance from the master bedroom opens out onto the pool and the other entrance from the bathroom is adjacent to the living room. The open-air master bath includes a private garden with another water feature, and a huge circular tub. A separate shower and toilet along with two “his and hers” sinks completes the master bath. A walk-in closet area with a programmable safe, hanging closet and separate “his and hers” shelves is adjacent to the bathroom.

The master bedroom, with air-conditioning and ceiling fan, also includes original oil painting artwork by the noted Sarawak artist “Mohammed” Harahap as well as other Balinese and Javanese artists. The king-size poster bed has a thick duvet cover and fine soft cotton mosquito nettingdraped around the 4 sides for your comfort. The bed looks directly out over the pool- a perfect spot for the morning’s first cup of coffee or tea! A separate large daybed is built into a nook with sunlight streaming through windows on 3 sides, perfect for an afternoon siesta with a favorite book or a nap for a younger child. A TV and DVD player are located in an opposite corner. A desk complements the room. A safety lamp is under a table stand, and is fully charged in the event of an electrical power outage. It will automatically go on and lasts for 8 hours on one charge.

UPSTAIRS BEDROOM

Above the living area upstairs are two of the three bedrooms en suite. In many ways, the upstairs bedrooms are similar to the master bedroom except for the day bed. Each bedroom is air-conditioned and has a king size 4-poster bed, wooden desk with chair, and Cable TV with a DVD player. Original oil paintings by Balinese artists adorn the walls of these two bedrooms. There are large closets and shelving to place clothing and other personal belongings. The view from the large windows of the pool and thatched roofs is lovely!

One of the tiled bathrooms upstairs has a large walk-in shower while the other one has a bathtub with shower. Frosted glass murals adorn the inside of the shower wall, letting in light while providing privacy
