5 Of The Best Lazy Berawa Brunch Spots

In the past two years, Berawa has become one of Canggu’s most coveted areas. With a growing number of excellent cafes and restaurants, it’s a haven for the hip who want to experience the spoils of urban Bali. Think smiling locals, lush green rice paddies and a cafe scene to rival Melbourne’s best. Holidays are for relaxing so we encourage outrageous laziness from our guests. There’s nothing better than sleeping in late before wandering down the road for brunch, good coffee, good company and no hurry to be anywhere. To help we’ve taken it upon ourselves to research the best brunch spots in Berawa. We judged them by the quality of the coffee, the service, the general yumminess of the food and of course, the ambience.

Pomelo

With good music, low traffic noise and a variety of comfy seating Pomelo is a great place to spend a lazy morning. We recommend you base yourself out the back next to the pool. Lush green vines snake down the brick wall and the place is full of quirky knick-knacks to catch the eye. The food here is lovely and the staff are attentive. We recommend the matcha pancakes, they’re a fresh and healthy alternative and some of the best on Bali. Strong coffee is a plus at Pomelo and they also have a good selection of teas. If you want to turn it into an all-day event bring your swimmers, Pomelo provides towels so customers can take a dip. An added bonus is the cute little spa on the second floor. Why not pop upstairs for a treatment and have them bring you a fresh juice while you enjoy some pampering.

Cinta

Backing onto a rice paddy, Cinta is a super relaxing option if you’ve got little ones in tow. There’s a playground out the front with a blackboard, some swings and a wooden climbing area. It’s a great way to keep them entertained while you enjoy some time to yourselves. The place is run by Russians who have trained their staff to serve customers with love – the English meaning of the word Cinta. This cafe is light and breezy and you can either sit up the back to look over the rice paddies or use the excellent long bench near the playground to host the whole family without feeling crowded. We recommend you try the fruit smoothie bowls or the granola. They both tip the yumminess scale so you won’t be disappointed.

Nude

Nude is an excellent option for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The food is nothing less than delicious and the staff is possibly the best trained on the island. You’ll find yourself ordering coffee after coffee from the expert baristas and appreciating the hip but humble vibe. The music is funky but not too hard and there’s an enclosed room with air-conditioning if you want to beat the heat. The omelette here is to die for but we also recommend the potato rosti stack. Each plate is prepared with the careful eye of Australian trained chefs and there are lots of options if you’re watching your weight or sticking to a gluten-free or vegan diet. Nude is home to a couple of friendly Bali dogs who wander freely around making friends. There’s a smoking section out the front of the cafe and they also stock a small range of raw desserts if you’re in the mood for something sweet but guilt-free.

C’ugh House

C’ugh house is a new addition to the Berawa scene. The name is pronounced ‘kuff’ and their ethos is based on clean eating and sustainable practices. C’ugh is actually a coworking space hosting a variety of surfers, digital nomads and creatives who base themselves upstairs but pop down to enjoy the excellent food. The vibe here has a chic warehouse feel with both iron seats and comfy loungers to relax on. The internet speed is of course, excellent and free for those just wanting to dine. There’s a ladies brunch special on Sundays but the food is great every day! We recommend the cheeky bacon sandwich or the quinoa porridge to help soak up the excesses of the night before. You’ll find yourself relaxing as the breeze washes through from the rice paddy directly behind the cafe. There are also surfboard racks and a wide screen TV showing epic surfing videos for those who plan to come straight from the waves.

Milk & Madu

Milk and Madu is a Berawa favourite and has a super brunch and breakfast menu which ensures it’s always busy. Despite the hustle and bustle, the service is excellent and the staff are long-time employees, loyal to the cafe and its regulars. Milk and Madu serve Revolver coffee and stock the best soy and coconut milk brands for those who are off the dairy. It’s based next to a gorgeous little retail store and barber shop which are great to browse in if you’re waiting for a table. There’s a lawn outside with a kid’s area and picnic benches with umbrellas to shade you from the sun. We recommend the Eggs Benedict but really, all of the egg dishes are done to perfection and you can add anything you like to create a big hearty breakfast. The chia seed pudding is a lovely palate cleanser after your meal and you’ll find you can’t help your feet from tapping along to the deep and funky house music they play from 10 am onwards.
